Computer/Monitor Troubleshooting Tips
"Computer Won't turn on"
Step 1: Check Power:
- Try different power outlets and cables.
- For laptops, ensure the battery is charged.
- Check for a power switch on the desktop's power supply.
Step 2: Check if it is a Computer or Monitor Issue:
- Test Laptop/Desktop with another monitor
Step 3: If issue is not identified, submit a ticket to tech_support@redlands.edu
Change Display Settings
On Mac:
- Open System Preferences > Displays.
- Adjust settings as needed - Duplicate or Extended.
- Make sure all sources (screens) are being detected
On Windows:
- Right-click on the desktop > Display settings.
- Ensure the display is set to duplicate or extend as needed.
"Monitor won't turn on"
- Check cable connections between the monitor and the computer.
- Test the monitor with another computer.
- Ensure the monitor is powered on.
- Check HDMI/VGA/DisplayPort cable
- Test with newer cable to see if this solves the issue
